I got a new puppy and immediately called Invisible Fence, and set up an appointment for a consult.  We had the consult appointment and then scheduled 3 more appointments.  1 for the initial training, a 2nd for installation, and a 3rd for follow up training. I rushed home for the initial training, and the trainer appeared to be running late.  When I Googled the number I found DogWatch CO, and decided to look into it as well.  I called the Invisible Fence people, and got someone in a call center in TN who told me that it was a 5 hour window between 1-6, not a 1:00 appointment.  I explained that I thought it was at 1 and would be over in an hour, and I needed to be somewhere at 3 so we needed to cancel.  The rep had to check to see if I would be charged a $50 cancellation fee - because they hadn't done anything for me yet, there wasn't.  In fact, they ended up refunding my $100 deposit without hassle once we cancelled the rest of the appointments.
Then I called Ryan, and we scheduled 1 appointment for consultation, installation, and training SOONER than the rest of the Invisible Fence appointments.  I did some more research on DogWatch, and found that I could get into a basic fence (about the same product as Invisible Fence) for about half the cost, and if I wanted to pay about the same as what I was going to pay for Invisible Fence, I could get a far superior product with a lot more options with DogWatch.  They are also a local company, and I would always rather support local business, and deal with local people, than someone at a call center in TN.
Additionally, Ryan went above and beyond when I told him I had made a mistake by excluding our chicken coops from the perimeter.  When he came back to swap out the unit to a Smart Fence 2 days later, he installed more fence for me to include the perimeter of our entire property.  He easily could have charged me for the additional visit, and he did not.  He just did it with no push back at all.
I am so glad that I found DogWatch of Colorado just in the nick of time!  I am much happier with the product, as well as the service.  Thank you Ryan!  Little Roxi thanks you too!

Dog Watch to the rescue. We had the hidden fence installed and our new dog quickly learned the boundaries and we've had no issues. Not only do I think Dogwatch fence is a superior product to other hidden fences, but the team at Dogwatch Colorado are outstanding to work with.  The customer service provided by Derek and his team is great.  He helped us get our new puppy acclimated to the fence and even came by to personally help us swap out our receiver to a new collar when puppy outgrew the old one. Ryan and Derek came out and installed their invisible fence system and went though the training that they recommended for the dogs. Within four hours of the system being install, one dog was completely trained and the other took about a day and a half. I'm extremely please with results. Ryan and Derek run a great business. Our back fence is only 3 feet tall and is useless in keeping him in the yard. But my DogWatch invincible fence has worked flawlessly for over 10 years. He has never gotten out and now he just avoids the fence whether he has his collar on or not. I enthusiastically recommend DogWatch of Colorado!

Common Questions

Hidden fences are created by burying a ‘boundary wire’ a few inches underground around your property. The buried wire carries a harmless, low level radio signal from a transmitter installed in your house or garage. Your pet wears a lightweight, waterproof receiver collar that recognizes the radio signal. As your pet approaches the buried wire, the receiver collar emits a warning signal (audible or vibration). If your pet travels further, he will receive a mild electrical stimulation (also called a “correction”) from the receiver collar. Through a training program, your pet learns to recognize his fence boundaries and learns to stop at the warning signal. Although there are differences in some of the product features, this is how all hidden fences work (DogWatch, Invisible Fence^® and other radio fence brands.)

With an indoor system, the hidden wire runs around your couch, under the lip of the counter, around the trash or across a doorway or wherever you need to create either a containment area or an “off-limits” area. We also have “wireless” indoor units that do not require placement of a boundary wire. Give us a call to discuss your options.

Training is an important part of the process. After we install the hidden fence, we work with you to train your pet. The training includes teaching your pet to recognize the containment area boundaries through a combination of voice commands, audible warning signals from the receiver collar and visual flags that are set in the yard where the pet hears the warning alert. With training, the dog remembers the placement of the flags and associates the flags with the warning signal. As your pet learns, the flags are slowly taken away. Your pet also learns that if he continues beyond the flags and warning alert, he will receive a correction (a mild electrical stimulation from the collar). After training, most dogs do not cross the hidden boundary; they usually stop before the warning signal to avoid the correction.

We will initiate the training and provide instructions and support so you can complete and reinforce the training. After the initial training, your dog goes through a training session with you for a few minutes each day for about two weeks. We will develop a plan to meet the specific training needs of your pet(s).

The “stimulation” from the collar is a sensation similar to the static shock you receive after walking across a carpet in your socks. It is a brief, unpleasant sensation designed to deter a pet from leaving the boundary. After training, most dogs do not cross the hidden boundary and thus do not receive a correction.

The electronic stimulation will not “burn” your pet. In rare instances, prolonged or improper use of an electronic collar has resulted in a pet developing pressure sores on their necks. This situation is easily avoided by ensuring that the collar is fit properly and removed regularly. DogWatch strongly recommends removing your dog’s receiver collar daily when not in use.

The cost for a DogWatch Hidden Fence is almost always much less than traditional fencing. The cost varies based on which system is right for you, the number of pets, the size of the property, how many sidewalk and driveway cuts, if you want internal “garden loops”, etc. Contact us for a free consultation and an estimate for your property.

In addition to costing less than traditional fences, hidden fences provide more flexibility and more secure containment than traditional fences. For example, you can contain your dog in your yard, but keep him out of a pool area, garden or driveway gate. Plus, your dog cannot jump over, chew through or dig under a hidden fence. And hidden fences don’t need to be painted and don’t deteriorate like traditional fences.

There usually isn’t much difference in the cost of a DogWatch fence and other Dealer-installed brands (such as Invisible Fence^®.) Retail brands may seem to cost less than the Dealer-installed brands, but they do not include installation (which can be challenging), training (which is very important), ongoing support or a good warranty program. Also, Dealer-installed products tend to be better quality than retail brands.
